Congratulations to the Southeast Webster-Grand and Prairie Valley student councils for their time and effort they have put in to develop a list of the top three choices for the whole grade sharing grades. Students in grades 4-11 will be voting on Tuesday, March 11th on the following choices:
Name: Quad County / Southeast Valley /West Bank
Mascots: Jaguars /Spartans /Cobras
Colors: Teal, Black and metallic silver / maroon and metallic silver / navy blue and metallic gold
As superintendents of the districts we are very pleased with the work that the students, their sponsors, Sherry Vogel and Deb Snyder along with the high school principals, Rich Wagner and Denny Hammen for the days they have planned to help the students move into the sharing process. On February 7th, the student council members from grades 7-11 attended activities at the Prairie Valley High school. Along with the student council members from same grades at PV, the students went to South Central Calhoun High School and visited with the student council and how they help with the sharing process. Then on March 5th, Prairie Valley student council came to Southeast Webster-Grand and discussed items such as Homecoming, school colors, school name and school mascot.
The results will be release at the joint board meeting in Gowrie on March 20th at 7:30 p.m. in the high school library. Prairie Valley School Improvement Advisory Committee is inviting all of the Southeast Webster-Grand parents and members of the School Improvement Advisory Committee and Boosters Club to be at the high school on March 20th for a tour of the building beginning at 6:30.
Our final thoughts are in regards to the name of the schools. Please remember that each district is still Southeast Webster-Grand and Prairie Valley. Grades PK-4 will retain the name of each district since they are not included in the sharing of students. (example: Southeast Webster-Grand Elementary in Dayton for grades PK-4 and Prairie Valley Elementary in Farnhamville for grades PK-4). The name, colors and mascot, which has been voted upon, is only for grade 5-12 since they are the grades named in the whole grade sharing contracts.
The first Warrior Café of the season will be held on Tuesday, March 18 beginning at noon. The Culinary Arts class is ready to serve some great meals this spring. Our first menu will be Pizza Pasta Casserole, Garlic Breadstick, Carmen Lettuce Salad, fruit mix, and of course two choices of dessert which are Black Forest Cheesecake or a Banana Cream Dessert. Please call the high school office at 352.3142 to make reservations. The cost of the meal is $8.00. The Culinary Arts class looks forward to serving you. We can also handle groups of 15-20 people and we are also available for small catering jobs. Give us a call and let us serve you.
